Module 5 Post

I am not teaching in a face-to-face classroom anymore so I am not extremely static but still envision myself as middle of the road between static and dynamic. The layers of technology I use are still predominantly static. In the classrooms, we have a math lab which is more dynamic with presentations and videos. but I do not design them. In another class, I have been fortunate since it is about learning Information Technology. I created a blog and a wikispace for the students. I can upload presentations, videos and weekly guidance. The weekly guidance is static in that it is a Word document or printed text; but the presentations and videos lean further towards the dynamic arena. I have not created any videos yet for this class but hope to do so in the future. I like it but wish I had more tools to accomplish a good video! The features of blogging and wiki spaces have not gone unnoticed either. It is a first for a lot of the students. They wanted to post on my blog!

This though is still a relative static experience. As Moller stated, “If you buy partially prepared food or a meal, you can make some choices about additional ingredients you might want to add to the dish. You come out with your own version of the meal, but it is based on your starter package.” I am still at the middle of the road in static-dynamic technologies.

I am trying to build a Second Life area for the class but it is slow going. Too much is going on right now! Wish me luck!

  1. I agree with Moller's comment. I like to add "ingredients" to my class. Do you students utlize the blog and wiki to its full potential?

  2. Margaret,

The wikispace and blog are additional resources. A lot of students do not use them but use the basic material in the course layout.

  3. Is the class you teach a technology class, or do you incorporate the technology into another class? How do you use the wikis? I'm trying to think of ways to incorporate wikis into my advanced art class.

  4. Kiana,

I teach a technology class but is Freshman Computer Literacy so a lot of times. They are extremely overwhelmed with resources and trying to negotitate even the assignments. i just had a complaint that the class was too much but I don't design it. So I understand why they don't leave a lot of comments on the blog on wiki. They do have to view the blog to see the guidance for each week. From watching the counters, not al the studnets read the guidance either!

One wiki with a page for each student would be great! THink, they could post their artwork from a digital cmaera and leave comments on each of the group member's art work!

  5. I agree with what you did on your concept map for module 5. You had some good example on both sides of the spectrum. I too feel that I am in the middle of the road, but there are some good resources on the static side that I would not want to let go of.

  6. Burian,

I think static and dynamic media have to adjusted on age level. I would not want junior high students that had dynamic media....such as the ability to text me constantly. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
