  1. Hi Marcia,
I like the parallel between the students and animals. You definitely show your love of nature. Some of your text is a little difficult to read. Try a larger font, not as fancy, try using white when the background is busy.
You asked about my video. It's on my blog now. Here's the link:

  2. Kiana,

I tried white and it did not work on a lot of the slides. I tried green, black, red, orange but the funny blue did stand out!

I did comment! You had a lot of interveiws!

  3. Marcia,

I think your metaphor of students as animals was very creative. I would not have been able to come up with such a creative way to display the information. On occasion I felt that you stayed on the animal too long. The scenes with the bear and the cat seemed to drag on. You had great information on each but maybe you could have added another picture with the dialog. Other than that, I think you did a great job!

  4. Marcia,

Not having made a video before, I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, qualified to critique your work. I think you have a good video. I liked the opening music and scenery. I think you have a clear storyline throughout your video. Your appearing in the video is effective because it gives personality to the video’s narrator. Your use of a mouse, a bear, and a cat were apropos to the type of student you were addressing. I thought the text, as Kiana commented, was somewhat difficult to read. Perhaps adding a few more movie clips would have underscored the intent of the project.

I know it must have taken you a lot of work and time to produce that video.

    Best regards,

    David

  5. You've experimented and now have a complete presentation. Your theme was ambitious and turned out well. Good use of higher level thinking using the animals in parallel with your concept. Good opening too. Congrats! How do you feel about the final outcome?

  6. Hi Marcia,
I viewed your video again and I was just wondering where is the connection to the keynote speaker?

  7. I liked your movie. Interesting topic, especially since I have a few difficult students in my classroom this year. I liked how you used personfication to establish your point.

  8. Tosh,

Thanks but I wished that I had been able to work on it more. I really liked doing it. It is the perfectionist in me. I really thought the comments made about the cat were correct and I could ahve added more aggressive animals like tiger clips.

  9. David,

You are right, I could have used a text clip instead of overwritting on the clip. But I was close to the 6 minutes!

  10. Kiana,

That keynote speaker is me! What lousy lightning, even the cat looks better than me!

I tried to get a few professors to speak from DePaul but that did not work well. Too busy! But I did borrow one of their
    computers!

  11. Your video looks good. I agree with Kiana that you did not make it clear that you were the keynote speaker. But your video did get a lot of information in the 5 minutes.

  12. Yes Marcia, you created a wonderful video and I too enjoyed the animals and the relation to the "disruptive" student. Font, text yes all of that was difficult to read but overlooking the small things, you're video was well thought out and planned nicely. It was thorough and again, great job!

  13. Andy,

Thanks and everyone you are right about the text. I was not proud the Turquoise blue color but it was easier to read than other fonts and colors I tried! I think David made a good comment that I didn't need to overlay the text on each video clip!

Also, Hope life improves in your part of the world! Success to you!

Your classifications of learners: the over talkative, domineering, shy, and lazy students were very interesting. I agree that teachers must work hard to reach all students and that everybody has a different personality or learning style. Some students need to be reminded of consequences in a group setting, while others benefit more from individual correction. I believe the secret to working with challenging or difficult students is to develop a personal relationship with each student. One cannot help to change a person’s behavior without knowing the person’s strengths and weaknesses. Do you think students cause more behavior problems because they are bored in class or because they are trying to hide their learning deficiencies?

After watching your video, I wondered if including strategies for reaching these type of students, would have made your video even better? I think you would enjoy reading the resources below because they offer strategies for teaching difficult students.

  15. Adding beautiful animatls to a presentation- there is no way you can go wrong!! I enjoyed the animals and how you incorporated them into your presentation, it aided you in getting your point across. The video was enjoyable and kind of relaxing with the audio that was added. Good Job!
